Please join the Harvard Club of New Jersey on Sept 14th for a unique outdoors event with The Nature Conservancy ("TNC") in Blairstown, NJ. TNC is a global non-profit which works in over 70 countries to address the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. Our group will be joined by the Director of the Freshwater Program, Beth Styler Barry, and will witness TNC's river restoration work. TNC is deconstructing a dam, enabling fish to swim upstream and spawn—which they have been unable to do for 129 years!
Please see this link for a 60-second video and information about the dam removal project.
Participants will also learn more about land protection efforts in nearby "Bobcat Alley", which is part of the Appalachians corridor; this is one of the most climate resilient, biologically diverse and carbon-rich landscapes in the world. There will be an opportunity, for those interested, to have lunch locally afterwards.
This 90-minute event starts at 10am on Sept 14th in Blairstown (exact location provided to those who register).
There is no cost for this event. Please use the "Buy Tickets" link below to register. We encourage participants to consider making a donation to The Nature Conservancy.
There will be a maximum of 16 participants. Please wear boots or sneakers, and bring water and snacks (as noted there will be an opportunity to have lunch afterwards).
Be sure to provide your email and mobile number so that we may provide you the exact location, and contact you if there is a last minute change of plans.
