Visit the beautiful Monfried Garden

Saturday, June 16, 2012

Begins at 11am

15 Stone Fence Road

Allendale, NJ 07401

Join the Harvard Club of New Jersey for a stroll through a beautiful private garden maintained by Lanis and Tom Monfried. The front garden showcases borders of perennials, shrubs, and bulbs, with roses. In the back garden, the path leads through a partly shaded perennial border under an arch into a shady raised-bed garden, continues through a woodland garden planted with spring ephemerals, then past a long hedgerow featuring a mix of conifers and deciduous flowering shrubs underplanted with perennials and bulbs. Beds around the swimming pool feature witch hazel, pagoda dogwood, smoke tree, hydrangea, and many shade-loving perennials. Near the house, another ‘Zephirine Drouhin’ and Clematis ‘Silmakivi’ drape over a path. Throughout the garden, there are more clematis trained through the branches of deciduous shrubs. A small raised-bed garden near the patio provides vegetables in season. Apricot and plum trees grow nearby.

The visit is self-guided, though Lanis Monfried will be on hand to take questions. It begins at 11:00 AM.

The cost is $5, payable when you arrive. Please RSVP to tom514@optonline.net so that we know how many to expect.
