Walking Tour of the Ironbound (Newark)

 

The walking tour will be led by a “Have You Met Newark” experienced staff member who is a Newark resident and urban planner and will include a free snack. The focus of the tour will be on the architectural and ethnic history of the Ironbound, a dense historical neighborhood of over 50,000 residents. The tour will begin at Noon on Saturday, Nov 7th, and will feature historical churches, eateries, parks, and other points of interest in the vicinity.

 

The tour will end at All Points West distillery. Free samples of sips of spirits made by the distillery and bottle purchases are available to small groups inside the distillery. The signature drink of the day, at additional charge, will be Old Fashioneds made with their award-winning Malt and Grain Pot Still Whiskey (2019 USA Spirits Ratings, Whiskey of the Year). If we have at least 20 participants, the distillery will set up outdoor seating.

 

The tour will last three hours, cover about 3 miles of walking, will be led in a socially-distant way (masks are required), and will be taking place in the autumn, so please dress appropriately. Inclement weather may lead to the cancellation of the event up until the morning of, in which case the event will be rescheduled for a later date. Tickets are available now only for dues-paying members of HCNJ and a guest ($10) (limit of two per member). Tickets for non-dues paying members ($25) (limit of two) will not be made available until October 31.

 

The meeting point will be at the corner of Prospect and Ferry Streets (right outisde Iberia Restaurant/Sihana). There are multiple pay surface lots in the immediate area.
